Today I released a new demo. This was an application assignment for the course Professional Media Composition which I intend to study next year. One minute of music with suspense and action. Epic to say the least… Listen to the demo here.

Today was the first rehearsal for the opera “Rusalka”, composed by Antonín Dvořák. This project is a co-operation between Heritage Sinfonietta and Opera Compact. The conductor for this project is none other than the Swedish conductor Per-Otto Johansson. Some of the amazing singers are Kristina Bitenc and Denzil Delaere. I composed music for a very moving and powerful film called “Bear Hugs”. It starts out quite quirky and innocent but it gets to a very dramatic twist. This composition was the assignment for the Indie Film Music Contest in which I participated. The journey into the world of media composition continues! You can listen to my take on this film here. Yet another great competition in which I participated! This time I entered into the film scoring competition of the World Soundtrack Awards in Gent. The piece of film was an excerpt from the first documentary ever made: Nanook of the North. I tried to capture the atmosphere in my own style. You can listen to my entry here.

After a very long period of waiting it is finally allowed to rehearse again with the orchestras, of course still with some restrictions. However it is an absolute joy to see all the musicians again and to hear the music everybody missed so much. In Heugem, Riethoven and Milheeze, I will work hard to get the orchestras back up to their level again and make some wonderful music, hopefully with some concerts in the near future!

Great news! Today I received a message from the Score The World team to congratulate me on the achievement of reaching the top ten of the film scoring contest. I got in 7th place with which I am over the moon!

Today I published my entry in the Score The World film scoring contest. The assignment was to score the ending of the award-winning movie “Son of Saul”. You can listen to my take on this dramatic scene here.

Today I have officially started my journey on media composition! Last week I composed music for this wonderful piece of film called “Spring” to enter in a film scoring competition organized by The Cue Tube and the Northern Film Orchestra. What a start! Watch and listen to the creation here.

To be able to wish everybody a merry Christmas in these challenging times, I have arranged two beloved Christmas songs and recorded these with Harmonie St. Michaël Heugem. To make it even more special, we asked the wonderful Catalijne to sing. It was a long day of recording in small groups but the orchestra did a great job. After that I mixed the recordings and edited the video and the result is just amazing. Listen to “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “White Christmas” here.
