Twan Cox is a (media) composer, conductor and a musician. He always had a strong connection with music. As a young boy Twan started playing violin at 9 years old and a year later he started playing percussion. Later he joined the local wind band where I played clarinet, baritone saxophone and percussion. It was clear to him from an early age that he wanted to pursue a career in music.
Twan finished my Bachelor’s Degrees at the Conservatory of Maastricht. He studied viola with Marc Tooten and wind band/brass band conducting with Pieter Jansen. As violist he has played in symphony orchestras, string orchestras and other chamber orchestras. Some examples are the NJO and the Zomeropera-orchestra. He also played a lot of chamber music with string quartets and trios.
Nowadays Twan is mainly active as a wind band conductor. He is the conductor of three wind bands: Harmonie St. Michaël Heugem, Riethovens Harmoniecorps and Fanfare St. Cecilia Milheeze. Furthermore he plays viola in the Heritage Sinfonietta and several chamber ensembles in the Netherlands and Belgium.
Besides conducting and playing Twan is also active as composer/arranger for media, wind band and percussion ensemble. He publishes his own work at OOR Creatie.
Listen to an interview Twan had on local radio station L1 with Emil Sarkowicz on the 8th of December 2019 in a program called “Blaaskracht”.
